Consumer Genetic Testing has become incredibly popular around the world. Whether it is to find long-lost relatives, identify any number of genetic predispositions to disease, or improve diet & exercise, there is one thing in common, people want it. However, some people don’t give much thought to what happens to their genetic information and what it can actually mean for themselves -- or their family. DNA testing can be a double-edged sword.

Part 3--No Free Lunch When Shopping for Genetic Tests

"...sharing of your genetic information...you may be denied health or life insurance or you may be denied a job..."

In many cases while shopping, price is often the final decision maker. Saving even $1 can help make the choice between this brand or that brand and there is often little repercussion as to which you choose. But choosing a genetic test is VERY different. We at AGS strongly urge you to do your homework and research when educating yourself on the companies that offer "best DNA tests on the market". Not all genetic tests are the same nor do all genetic testing companies have the same goal in mind. Keep in mind, that when Genetic tests appear to be“cheaper”, their makers are very likely selling all or part of your personal information to make up for the actual costs of the test! That’s how they can lower the cost to you! Because AGS is in the business of genetic testing, we are approached frequently by several companies asking us to sell your information to boost our revenue. We will NEVER do that.

"The Genetic Tests that are "cheap"...sell all or part of your personal information..."

To some shopping is an art form, and everyone approaches the task slightly different. Many make their final decision based on price. We, at AGS, want you to be aware because not all genetic tests are the same nor do all genetic testing companies have the same goal in mind. Some Genetic Tests that have a “cheap” price actually sell all or part of your personal information to make up for the actual costs of the test! That’s how they can lower the cost to you. Because AGS Health is in the business of genetic testing, we are approached frequently by several companies asking us to sell our clients genetic information to boost our revenue. We will NEVER do that.
