Optimal-Fitness-with-DNA-Testing"...How Fit am I?":

I asked myself 'How fit am I?' the other day and I quickly answered 'I am a fit person'. Then I asked myself 'Am I at my optimal fitness level?' ... and sadly, I had to answer 'No...'.

At first, I wasn’t sure what it meant to be at optimal fitness. So, of course, I looked it up. Let's just say I was not expecting what I found.

What The Fitness Experts Say:

The American Council on Exercise (ACE) states that optimum fitness is a condition resulting from a lifestyle that leads to the development of an optimal level of cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility, as well as the achievement and maintenance of ideal body weight. [1] A word that popped up several times in many articles is “balance”. Now we aren’t talking about Yoga balance here, nor are we talking about the balance between arm-day and leg-day workouts. Balance really means the symmetry of cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and maintaining an ideal body weight.

Next Step To Optimal Fitness:

Think about someone you know who you believe is at their optimal fitness level. Literally, the first people that came to my mind are all CrossFit folks I know and see at my box. These people are tested in every way possible when it's time to get down to it at the CrossFit games.

Digging into optimal fitness a bit more, the Paleo diet came up several times as well. Thus making CrossFit and the Paleo diet the perfect combo? Hmmm....maybe, or maybe not. If you could ask your body a question, what would it answer about what diet is optimal and what is its preferred exercise type? You may think this is absurd and not possible... but it is possible! I had a Genetic Health and Wellness test done, and it told me more than I thought it could about me. Now, this is all starting to make so much more sense! Optimal fitness really does include all physical aspects and so much more.

Does this mean that if you can't touch your toes you aren’t at your optimal fitness? Bad news, good news. Unfortunately, yes, HOWEVER, it's not the end of the world. Here are three principles I've been living by since I've embarked on this journey towards optimal health.

  1.  Treat each day like a new day
  2.  Have OBTAINABLE goals
  3.  Define and work on your weakness

DNA Genetic Testing For Optimal Fitness:

This is where an at home AGS Premium Health & Wellness Genetic Test and / or the AGS Lite Health & Wellness Genetic Test can come into play. Even when you are close to your health goals, just achieving that extra 1% can be hard and can take longer than you planned. Learning more about your body may be the solution to propel you to the next level.
